Violet Dennison

born 1989 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. Known for her system-based abstractions, Dennison has created site specific installations that contain networks of hacked plumbing pipes and using seagrass as an artistic material. The artist disrupts or dismantles the systems she establishes, signaling the constant flux of connections. Like beats of noise, her works echo the hiccups that permeate industrial life. Her oil paintings expand and build on her conceptual practice, they function as systems and are a part of them: digital screens, economies of brush strokes, and garbled information. Merging memories and digital mutation fantasies, her works are shaped by an interest in the tapestry that shapes contemporary existence, ever shifting between techno and nature. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the SculptureCenter, New York; the New Museum Triennial, New York; the Kunstverein Freiburg, Freiburg; the Kunsthall Stavanger, Stavanger; The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Connecticut; the Kunsthaus Kollitsch, Klagenfurt; 6th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Moscow.

She completed studies at New York University (2011), and Bard College, New York (2018).
